HUUB Altair Goggles

Trivelo Score – 5 / 5

In terms of our Huub Altair swim goggles product review we have to say they are first-class.  From the hundreds of reviews we have completed there are only a handful of 5/5 scores. The HUUB Altair goggles are a worthy recipient of this score. There are no goggles that even come close.

Arena Cobra Tri Mirror Goggles

Trivelo Score – 5 / 5

I have completed varying distances of triathlons and open water swims, and tried various brands of swimming goggles. Zoggs Predator Flex, Huub, DHB, Form, Magic 5, Speedo and spent a fair amount of money.  All of these goggles have inevitably leaked and fogged.   The Arena Cobra Tri Swipe Mirror are a fantastic pair of goggles for open water swimming/triathlon. They are such a comfortable fit and there is no need to push them on tight to get a good seal and prevent leakage.  The tinted lenses means they are ideal for swimming in sunny conditions and enable you to still be able to sight.  The lenses have stayed clear on multiple swims, and they have a function which reactivates the anti-fog feature.

Zone3 Vapour Goggles

Trivelo – 5 / 5

Overall then, these goggles have exceeded my expectations. The design, features, lenses, eye seals, nose bridge and straps are all really well designed, offering great levels of comfort, leak-proofness and vision in a really stylish package. Would I recommend them? 100%!

4.

Arena Cobra Tri Mirror Swipe Goggles

Trivelo Score – 4.5 / 5

Overall, the Cobra’s are a very well-built goggle with excellent visibility that is backed up by an impressive anti-fog and anti-leak technology. As a personal minor-quibble the split strap sizing is a bit small. Also the gasket fit on longer swims a bit tight. For shorter sessions and racing up to even Ironman distances these would be an strong contender for my goggle pick.

Zoggs Predator Polarized Ultra Goggles

Trivelo Score – 4.5 / 5

After 5 times of using Zoggs Goggles; 2 pool swimming and 1 open-water swimming. The lens type I got is perfect for low-visibility conditions such as overcast/cloudy days and ideal for pool swimming with strong artificial light. I still have never tried the goggles on a bright and sunny day, but I do believe that this type of lens would also be a perfect choice when the sun hits directly into your eyes. Another scenario that the Zoggs goggles needs to be tested is in a strong and high wave when the wave hits both on the front and side of the goggles.

Roka R1 Goggles

Trivelo Score – 4 / 5

I have used a range of different swim goggles but never Roka before. What was I thinking before. Roka goggles are superb. I have to accept I am late to the party. Good fit. Look good. Great seal that is reliable. Decent anti-fog up to a point but not infinitely working. Good visibility and clarity of lens.

Form Smart Swim 2 Goggles

Trivelo Score – 4 / 5

They are undeniably expensive costing as much as 10 pairs of regular goggles. I wouldn’t personally have these as my only goggles either. So, you still will need a pair of regular goggles as well if taking the plunge. The heads up display data is exactly as you would expect. What surprised me and what makes them worth the money in my view is the headcoach feature. With the accelerometer in the unit it has a unique ability to give feedback on your head position in the water. Not even a coach in the water can match this.

If you are serious with your swimming and looking for an extra edge they are a spectacular success. They have limitations but you cannot get this level of detailed information from any alternative. I’m still seriously impressed by the feedback on my technique. I had not expected that from these goggles.

TYR Blackhawk Goggles

Trivelo Score – 4 / 5

I had no opportunity to test the googles in an indoor pool where I would have liked to test the lenses under indoor lights. This is not to say that they would not suit other people but the blue tinted lenses in low light conditions did not work with my eyes.

After four weeks of intensive testing, the googles are still in great shape and fit as well as on my first swim. The anti-fog coating is still good but I have yet to have come across a pair of swim goggles where the anti-fog coating lasts forever. All in all, I would highly recommend those goggles by TYR if you are a regular open-air swimmer (particularly in a sunny place like California) and don’t want to end up with goggle eyes hours after your swim.

9.

TYR Tracer-X Elite Goggles

Trivelo Score – 3.5 / 5

They’re not the most comfortable goggles on the market in my opinion, but they are better than most at long swims.  There are bespoke fit options on the market that would be a similar price point, If comfort is what you’re after.

Overall, these are now my new preferred goggles, largely due to the visibility aspect and the clarity of vision.  Most racing I do is early in the morning, where the sun is low, so good clarity of vision and good protection from the suns glare are really important.  Nothing will make you slower over your swim leg than not being able to navigate and see properly ergo swimming further than you need to.

TYR Stealth X Goggles

Trivelo Score – 3 / 5

xFrom my swimming in the TYR Stealth X I would summarise that they are a decent set of swimming goggles but they have their flaws. Which is a real shame for a stylish well priced pair of goggles. The biggest issue that limits my score of the goggles unfortunately comes down to overall feel and the fit while in the water. I could not find a comfortable fit for my shape face with them and ultimately limited my use of them.

Zoggs Fusion Air Titanium Goggles

Trivelo Score – 3 / 5

Comfort wise, bearing in mind the close fit to my eyes and the marks around them, I can only give them a score of 2/5 but taking into account that they not once leaked, a 3/5 might be more appropriate. As the lenses are not mirrored, they’re really only suitable outdoors on overcast days, as the tint didn’t really stop the glare from the sun or water. My preference would always be mirrored goggles as they work in any weather conditions.

Zone 3 Vapour Photochromatic Goggles

Trivelo Score – 3 / 5

I am big fan of Zone 3 gear so was happy to test the Vapour goggles. Brilliant clarity of lenses. Super comfy for long swims. I love having a case to help carry my bits. If you are happy with a larger style set of goggles then they are a good match. Biggest drawback is the anti-fog. I’m not sure if pair I was using had an issue but the anti-fog only lasted minutes and quickly became really blurred.

13.

TYR Special Ops 3.0 Goggles

Trivelo Score – 3 / 5

I’ve got on ok with these goggles. I’m surprised by the lack of transition in the lenses given that that seems to be the main selling point, and it’s a shame that the anti-fog seems to have lost its effectiveness fairly quickly. From my experience this happens to all goggles eventually and it’s only really caused me trouble in difficult light anyway. Other than the occasional leaky eye, they’re easy to adjust with a good seal when they are properly set up.

14.

TYR BlackOps 140 EV Goggles

Trivelo Score 2 / 5

They didn’t leak, the nose adjustment was good, anti-fog was good enough. I think I could just about cope with the tunnel vision for a one-off event. Would I choose these given any other option, no. Unless you want to learn how a visually impaired triathlete/swimmer feels, which incidentally I would highly recommend as a life lesson, then these are perfect.

TYR Rogue swim mask

Trivelo score – 2 / 5

If you’re a more recreational swimmer and the Rogue fits your face, it’s certainly worth considering. The mask is well made, as you would expect from a major swim brand like TYR, but because I couldn’t achieve a perfect seal I’ll be sticking with my TYR goggles instead of using the mask.
