As part of our mammoth round-up of swimming goggles we share the TYR Stealth X Goggles Review. From the mighty TYR we had great expectations for these goggles. Did they stack up?

x Swimming goggles monster review

Summary of the Review of the TYR Stealth X

Trivelo Score – 3 / 5

From my swimming in the TYR Stealth X I would summarise that they are a decent set of swimming goggles but they have their flaws. Which is a real shame for a stylish well priced pair of goggles. The biggest issue that limits my score of the goggles unfortunately comes down to overall feel and the fit while in the water. I could not find a comfortable fit for my shape face with them and ultimately limited my use of them.

Pros

  • Zero leaking on the seals
  • Incredibly clear lenses for top class visibilty

Cons

  • They are really only suited to you if you have a small eye socket

Tyr stealth x goggles review

First Impressions

Good looking pair of goggles. Packaging is a mass of pieces of plastic but is labelled as recyclable. Even that said I would advocate less plastic for a modern set of goggles. The colour and style was good I liked the slickness of the design of them straight off the bat.

A bit of a shame but the googles didn’t come with a case so I had to rob something from another pair to keep them protected while in my swim bag.

Fit of the Goggles

Heading to the water I quickly was able to find a fit that felt ok on dry land. I found the adjustable nose clip really good although a little bit fiddly to change once I got the hang of it was ok. The adjustment of the straps was easy to do and find a suitable snug fit around the head. All feeling good. Well, not quite. I could not get on with the eye socket fit. I found it way too small even when I adjusted the nose clips. Countless fiddling around with different parts I could not find a fit with my eye socket.

Seal of the TYR Stealth X

I like every other swimmer hates water leaking into the lens. Sloshing around to trickle into my eye as I rotate for my breathing. I took the TYR Stealth X out for multiple swims including some monster distances. Through all these tests they didn’t leak at all, not even over a 3k distance.

Anti-fog durability (how long it lasts in hours)

They didn’t fog at all. Well played the lens gurus at TYR. Not only did they resist fogging up but they were crystal clear. It was impressive how clear the lenses were. Usually the pool looks dull in competitive goggles but it was so bright in these goggles. In terms of pure lens clarity scoring they are a 5/5.

Quality of the materials

I was pretty surprised by this from TYR. I used other TYR products but have to admit these were the first goggles I had used. From initial use through to now I could only rate the quality of the material as ok. These are certainly not a high spec goggle.

TYR Stealth X goggles

Would you buy this?

Probably not a big surprise but I don’t think I’d buy the TYR Stealth X. In spite of some of the finest lenses I have used while swimming the tiny eye socket fit simply did not fit my face.
