S-Works Trivent Triathlon Cycling Shoes

Best Price: £300

Weight: 280g

The big boys on the block tipping the cash register at £300.  Here you expect the world and for them to be delivered by Unicorns.  The S-Works Trivent comes with lots of rigidity as you would hope and plenty of comfort without the need for any socks.  The rigidity from the carbon sole can make them a challenge in transition as you battle to wedge your foot into the snug housing.

With uniquely designed drawbridge closure system Specialized have poured research into a smooth transition. The velcro strap system works extremely well coupled with the Boa closure lock means nothing here to cause anything but pleasure.

Lightest Triathlon Cycling Shoe

Pearl Izumi Tri Fly Elite V6 road shoe

Best Price: £152.99

Weight: 255g

There are few Pearl Izumi product that we get sight of in the Trivelo offices that we don’t like and more often the Tri Fly elite is no exception.  The Tri Fly Elite V6 Triathlon bike shoe is a very credible contender in this line up and one of our favourites.  It has a Velcro system like many others with a lack of tongue to avoid any fouling in transition and deliver the ventilation needed on while putting the hammer down.  A carbon sole ensures weight is kept down while providing a solid foundation for power through to the powers.  With a carbon sole like the S-Works Trivent triathlon shoe this is actually lighter and the lightest triathlon cycling shoe in our line up.

Shimano TR5 Triathlon Cycling Shoes

Best Price: £104.49

Weight: 472g

Within Team Trivelo we have a pair of the Shimano TR5 triathlon cycling shoes and nothing much we can criticise them for.  They are a good very good fit although we accept this is a very personal thing.  The shoes have a good quality stiff feel to them and you’d be hard pressed to label them as cheap.  If standing out from the crowd is important to you then these are unlikely to really deliver but if a good all-rounder is your aim then you are unlikely to be disappointed.

The Shimano TR5 Triathlon shoes offer high-performance features at an entry-level price. The reversed strap closure and heel strap allow fast transitions and the quick-dry interior is comfortable even without socks. The lightweight glass fibre reinforced-polyamide sole ensures efficient pedalling.
